Welcome to Weaving Webs, where creative people share their creative references.
Our very first guest is Natalie Smithson (@styledbykatnat), who we believe to be the archetype of what it means to be into fashion online. Her work as a stylist is perfectly 2023, and sometimes even a little 2024. Having made Tumblr, eBay, Instagram, Depop and surely myriad other outlets her hunting grounds, Nat’s sharp practice as a fashion researcher consistently allows her to produce some of the most exciting and forward thinking outfits on the web. We’re grateful to have her on.
And if you’re not already familiar, we’re building a platform for people just like Nat!

thestreetfashion5xpro (2010 – 2016)
Obsessed with this blog thestreetfashion5xpro.blogspot.com for old street style. They are mainly in Milan, Tokyo & at fashion shows. It feels like a time capsule. You can really see how the general public or people who attend fashion shows dress. The style of photography is also comforting, because it is far removed from how the masses photograph nowadays.
Fashioning Identity (2017)
If you are into fashion the book Fashioning Identity: Status Ambivalence in Contemporary Fashion by Maria Mackinney-Valentin is a must read. It talks about fashion and how it correlates with human identity, status, etc. It touches on how complicated fashion identity is, and is straightforward about it. I love the segment about “normcore”, and how it can be fashionable to look technically ordinary. The term was coined by “K-Hole” an art group/fashion forecasting agency.
Tracey Denim (2023) by Bar Italia
Bar Italia’s newest album is one that I have been gravitating towards recently. I like how simple & slightly unnerving in a good way it is. The album is similar to 80s rock groups like My Bloody Valentine & The Stone Roses.
Haser Roit
The Brand Haser Roit (@serriot on Instagram) by Sara Mikoery. They are a designer from CSM (Central Saint Martins). I am really drawn to the unique textures & silhouettes paired with great craftsmanship. Their garments are also styled & photographed really well.
Christopher Nemeth
Christopher Nemeth is a British fashion designer from the 80s. He went to Camberwell College of Arts to be a painter initially, so that background shows up in his unique designs and advertisements. He used to sew with discarded materials and his own paintings. I love how his work is focused on the wearable art aspect and not focused on trends. Fashion is art, and his designs are the best example of this.
